Wedding stationery can be intimidating. Knowing what pieces you need, deciding on a design that will set the tone for your event, the cost…there’s a lot to consider. Clients often feel a sense of relief once they’ve landed on their perfect invitation suite. One thing clients often forget to consider are all the beautiful details that can accompany the paper, and make a lasting impression on your guests. Good news! I’m here to share some options when it come to the invitation embellishments that are often overlooked:
WAX SEALS
Wax seals are one of my favorite ways to class up an invitation suite. It’s like a perfectly sweet cherry on top of the sundae. You can customize the graphic to anything you’d like- monograms are timeless with a very elegant feel, however, if you have a specific image in mind that compliments your invitations, your wax seal is a great place to incorporate it. Wax seals have come a long way in the past few years. Gone are the days of ordering a custom stamp, melting a wax stick and hand stamping 100 seals (unless you want to use this method, of course). Many companies now offer self adhesive wax “stickers” with your custom image pre-stamped. Helllooooo 50 hours of your time back! And the best part, they look identical to the old fashion method.
VINTAGE POSTAGE
Who doesn’t love getting mail?! And what makes it even more fun? When your envelope is adorned with gorgeous stamps. Do yourself a favor and google “vintage postage” and waste hours looking for perfectly matching stamps for your invites. This growing trend has created many online shops specializing in beautiful, old-timey stamps. Lick em’, line em’ up, stack em’…however you choose to stamp your letters, vintage postage will indeed be a beautiful invitation embellishment.
ENVELOPE LINERS
This is one of the easiest and economical options for jazzing up your stationery. Go with a solid corresponding color to your invites, or tie in a pattern to really add some flare. And they’re not just for wedding invitations! Add a liner to your holiday cards, baby announcements and party invites, too!
CALLIGRAPHY
LOVE. CALLIGRAPHY. Who doesn’t? Is there anything more beautiful than an artfully calligraphed envelope? Preferably a dark envelope with gold ink!? And vintage postage?!?!? It’s one of those extra invitation embellishments that can be pricey, but worth it if you’re looking to take your invites to the next level. Alternatively, there are some beautiful calligraphy fonts that designers can incorporate into your invitations or envelopes. Not the same as a hand calligraphed piece, but you can get a very similar feel
RIBBON WRAPS & BELLY BANDS
For wedding invitations, if you opt for a flat invitation suite, ribbon wraps or belly bands are a great option for holding all the pieces together. It can be as simple as tying a raw silk ribbon around all the pieces or as snazzy as wrapping a glitter belly band and topping it with a wax seal! It’s a great way to wrap up your invitations and really finish them off before tucking them in an envelope.
…And this is just the tip of the iceberg. There are endless options when it comes to invitation embellishments. Remember that as you build your invitation suite, these subtle details are the perfect place to add some personality!
